Say NO to Crabinacup sold at Walmart! Such humiliation and animal cruelty against hermit crabs must not be tolerated.
Say NO to the painted shells sold in many pet stores! Hermit crabs are not toys, nor are their shells.
You can help our protest by signing the petitions and joining many other crabbers in the battle for the respect of hermit crabs.

So where did Hermit Crab Paradise come from? It all happened when I had a sudden interest in web pages. I had no idea how to make one, and I wasn't familiar with computers that much. The only program I knew how to use back then was Microsoft Word! Then everything changed on April 2 2004. My hermit crab Toejam died, and I had no idea why. Unfortunately, I was one of those people who was influenced by pet shops. I did not know that there was more to hermit crabs than food, water and shells.
I did some serious research on the Internet. To my surprise, the information online was completely different to that of what the pet shop said. Seeing the information covered an entire site rather than just on one page, I decided to trust what was online. That was when I met Kali Sharai Atreides. I found her website; http://hermitcrabs.itgo.com, and then I sent her an email that I need help with my hermit crabs. She replied quickly with very useful tips. We then emailed each other every now and then, and we got to know each other more.

Kali Sharai Atreides had a good knowledge of HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language). I told her that I wanted to share what I had learnt about hermit crabs on a website. She taught me a lot about making a website, and that websites needed to be hosted by a web hosting service. That's when I met Freeservers. Kali Sharai Atreides guided me through it all, how to use the Site Builder and other features.
I made a good start with the Site Builder. Then I got tired from not being able to customise everything. So I decided to check out what the File Manager was. From there I learnt HTML step by step. At first it just seemed just like a mass of code with no meaning. Then, I realised the trick to understanding HTML. It is not difficult at all! All you have to do is look at the coding very carefully, and then you'll see how it all works.
After much hard work, Hermit Crab Paradise appeared on the search engines. Then I started get more visitors each day. I then decided to make a forum for the site too, and many people began joining it. Hermit Crab Paradise had become a community! At that time, I thought the site was complete. Then I started receiving ideas from members how I could possibly improve Hermit Crab Paradise. Most of the suggestions were of course, no advertisements please! I thought, "How could a service host your site for free without putting ads on it? Don't they want to annoy you so much into paying to remove the banners?"
Finally, ayianna; a member of Hermit Crab Paradise, found a web host that hosts your site for free without ads; Atspace. After a long discussion, I decided to change hosts. The ultimate challenge was learning how to build the site purely with HTML and no other tools. It was tough, but fun at the same time.
Had the site settled down? No, it hadn't. Also Atspace was a great host with no advertisements, but they were still new and all the advanced features had not been enabled. Since I did not have much time to get the site up and running again, I had to move hosts. That was when I really got to know Vanessa of the Crab Street Journal. She suggested that I'd try her new Crabby Hosting, and I was the first one to do so! After all that great movement, the site has finally decided on a 'shell'.
As time moved on, Vanessa's Crabby Hosting was lost after her host shut down. Hermit Crab Paradise was then hosted under the same account with the Crab Street Journal.

Hermit Crab Paradise is currently hosted by Thunder Host. I am now the owner of both our domain and hosting account. I hope everything runs smoothly from now on!
