Re: exercise for ill crab

I did consider amputating a leg segment, but was told that if the new wound created by an amputation would likely get infected too and it would actually be closer to the body and therefore more dangerous. Honestly, I don't know if there really is a right or a wrong thing to do. It's not like anyone cures these ailments on a consistent basis. The herbal salt bath and exercise did, I think, prolong his life, but it wasn't a cure in his case. If it ever happens to my crab again, I think that I will try to treat it with Bragg's apple cider vinegar and see what happens because that is kinda pro-biotic and antiseptic in nature, but there is a big risk there since vinegar dissolves calcium which could make the exoskeleton a lot more vulnerable.

That's why so much effort goes into prevention with keeping things clean and feeding good wholesome food that keeps their immune system and general health in good order. Since I've been feeding them mostly wild-harvested and organic foods, I've had much better success.

AHH remove the leg? How would you do that? The stress would kill the crab in minutes. Although Ive heard they don't have nerves. Lol.

Not necessarily, but the infection did look as though it had spread elsewhere already.

Me too. It freaks me out, but once they're down I calm down. Speaking of molting, when the frick will Xavi come up? he's been down for like a month and a half and he's a medium.

I hope Xena comes up soon. When I read crabbing I saw things that said "try to resist the urge to dig up a molting crabby" and I was like "pfft...I'm not gonna do that" and now I realize that I really wanna see what he's doing! He SHOULD be due up this week or next, but I said that last week....sigh. Gomez molted without me knowing it. He's a micro, and I hadn't seen him for a few days, then Out of nowhere he dug up and I looked in the hole and there were pieces of his exo. Gomez was hardened and looked ok so I served the rest of the exo and other calcium rich foods to the crabbies.
