Protein
Hermit crabs need protein-rich foods just like we do. Of course, when speaking of protein we think of meat. Yes, hermit crabs need to eat meat, eggs or other protein-containing food to grow. If you don't feed them any protein, they probably won't grow much bigger (or even become smaller) after their molt. Hermit crabs require a lot of energy to harden up again, and protein will help 'boost' their growth and harden. They also need some sugar in their diet for energy.
