Purple Pincher?
I recently bought 2 crabs from the pet store and wonder what species they are. I am from Australia. One is a toast colour and the other one is a light brown with a purple claw, does that meen it's a purple pincher?
Yay Nacho and Taco my 2 hermies!

Re: Purple Pincher?
Claws and eyes, among other things, are more important than colour. Colour is variable, anatomy is not. Pictures would be very helpful!
I have 13 hermies, and 30-something pets in all (it varies).

Re: Purple Pincher?
Being you are from Australia there are only 2 species of hermies that can be bought. One which is very rare is the strawberry (C. perlatus) hermie that is very detectable:

and the other is the Aussie hermie (C. variabilis) They do come in a wide range of colorings, and even some of the large pincher shapes seem to vary a bit.

From the colors you mention they are, they are not strawberry hermies.

Re: Purple Pincher?
I know nothing about Aussie hermit crabs, so I'd trust what Ladybug said. Forget what I said, I'm an uneducated monkey.
If that sounds sarcastic, it's not. Sorry.

Re: Purple Pincher?
I'd say it's an Aussie. It's not red, and PPs aren't in Australia. Sounds like you got a cool one.

Re: Purple Pincher?
From your description, they are Aussies. Straws are extremely rare and are usually kept in a separate labelled tank if they are available.
Purple pinchers are not available in Australia.
