Gel on hermit crab
Hi I just joined and am kinda freaking out. My hermit crab orangello has came out of her/his shell and has been sitting in the water constantly but what has me freaking out is the orange gel like sacks that have grown all the way down the side of its body and I have no idea if it’s alive or not. It has not moved for three days!

Are they eggs? Do you have a photo that you can send us? Does Orangello appear to be dead? Have you isolated his/her from the others yet?

Sadly I agree with Wai. With the eye stalks and antenna down the way they are, as well as the discoloration of the side of the abdomen it appears he has passed away. Sorry for your loss.

Re: Gel on hermit crab
Hello, that is just natural abdomen coloration, and the reason you say it looks like gel is because a hermit crab must always have a moist abdomen. If that part gets too dry, it can lead to serious issues causing death.
Could you provide more information about your tank and what you do on a regular basis to care for your crabs?
