I pick mine up at the sides of the shell. Hopefully there is a point on the shell and ridges so I can get a good firm grip. Spiderman Ted (my first) is a shell changer and pretty easy to work with but JUMBO is very intimidating. Certainly bigger than a golf ball with the shell and "strong". IF he gets my finger I can guarantee I would be in pain.

none of my crabs have pinched 
....
it is amazing really, cause I just rescued the four crabs left in the tank at the store
not bothering to check friendliness level really. I have no fear of any of my crabs pinching, even the one who thinks I am crazy lady
