You need to tell them that hermit crabs live to be 30+ years old. not a month. Maybe then it'll get them thinking theyre doing something wrong.

They don't listen? Well that's pretty pathetic of them, having gone through five sets of hermit crabs over five months. Clearly they are doing something wrong. If they insist being arrogant, tell them to stop having hermit crabs altogether; I'm sure the hermit crabs will do better in the pet store than in their critter keeper.

Did they even have water dishes in there? From what I know so far, every living organism needs water. Only those who have some sort of mental disability may be unaware that water is essential for life.

Do not let them off so easily next time you go visit. They must stop what they are doing; even the pet stores are taking care of their hermit crabs better than them. Mistakes are evidence of ill-doing and they have made enough mistakes. However, these mistakes are costing lives. If they can't be bothered spending a bit of money to fix the conditions they have, tell them not to spend any money at all and stop taking hermit crabs from the store.

Go Wai! You should definetly reccomend HCP to them if they want to change their minds about how stupid they're being. Then all of us can tell them what they were doing is wrong and its pretty sickening. If the people at the pet store see them once a month to buy more and more crabs I think they should cut them off and tell them to start taking care of the crabs. We should all write letters and you can print them out and give them to your neighbors.

To be honest, I don't think they would be prepared to start searching online until they are convinced that what they are doing is wrong. However, they will be welcomed here, as long as they're willing to consider what we have to say.

This is why it's better to do research on a pet before bringing one home. Unfortunately, I didn't do that until after my first 2 passed away. But since then they have done really well. I'm proud to say that I've had Lemi for almost 3 years (Dec) lol. This forum is amazing!
