Funny behaviour, rock moving

Post by appps »

Have noticed one of my crab has taken to moving rocks. He lifts them as much as he can and tries to shift them. THey are rocks at least as big if not bigger than he is.

Then just now on my way to shut the computer down for the night I wandered past the tank and there he was totally underwater in the pond digging underwater in the smaller pebbles. (not fishtank gravel but small pebbles)

Out of the water, I had pebbles originally just in a two inch strip along the edge of the pond. The idea being they would loose sand as they climbed across and so not track so much sand in the water, but now they are all over the sand everywhere and as far away from the pond as the middle of the tank. The only way they could get that far is if someone pushed or carried them.

Unusual behaviour, wondering what its all about?

If this is a behavior change for your hermie, chances are it could be a pms too... When did he molt last? CrabWorks use to say that Jon/Kate would rearrange their whole tank when one was in premolt a few years ago which was her hint one had molting on their minds. Then, to figure out which one was being 'destructo' hermie.
