won't come out of shell
I just got two hermit crabs today, one of them is very active and the other one will not come out and walk around, I gave them both a small bath in treated water. Do you think it is just stressed out or what? I held it for just a little while thought the warmth from my hand would get it to come out but it did not.Any suggestions? thanks!

Re: won't come out of shell
I would say stress most likely. We have a rule in our house that we don't touch crabs unless we have to when they are new.

Re: won't come out of shell
Welcome to the forum, and this great hobby! Yes, I would put it down to stress also. They all have very unique personalities, and to encourage him to come out I would:
1. Take appps suggestion and leave them be as much as possible while new (make sure they are in a low-traffic room also)
2. While settling in, add in more hideys, nooks and crannies to hide in, this will make him/her much more inclined to move from spot to spot
3. Put in some strong-smelling food to entice him/her out such as fish or even mango, seeming as you have a small tank.
Ginger.
