New tank with different sized hermies?

Post by Panthera »

Hello all, I am starting up a new 115G or 430L tank.

Just wondering do I have to get all the hermies at the same size or is it okay to get mostly small ones and a couple of medium or larger ones?

Will I have any problems with bullying or serious fighting?

I can't speak to the Aussie crab's behavior, but with my crabs I've found that similarly sized-crabs are more likely to bully each other than differently-sized crabs. However, I'd wait until someone with Aussies can confirm or deny that - I know Wai's had some issues with bullying in the past, so maybe he can shed some light?

Emma is right in that similarly sized crabs will fight with each other for shells. On the other hand, differently sized crabs are less likely to attack each other as there is no reason (e.g. shells) to do so. The only problem you will always have regardless of size is potential cannibalism.
