I have never had hermit crabs shipped to me, so the opinion is all yours!

I really wouldn't know, But I think that it would be ok, so long as it was done properly. I shop for Hermie shells on ebay a lot, and found an outfit that sells live hermies, and they had a very high success rate for shipping, and nearly all the perchasers say that the hermies were healthy and active. This leads me to believe that it can be done, but it needs to be done right.

Hey Wai
As I said in IM, that's a hard question to ask. I think I need a third option. It really depends who is doing the shipping, and what time of the year.
I have shipped safely, and had crabs shipped safely to me. Each time it was same day delivery and carefully packaged, with attention paid to the weather and great attention to details.
I don't ship crabs any more because it was a stress that I wasn't willing to go through. The thing is, most crabs have been shipped at some time on their way to you - sometimes multiple times.
On CSJ Adoption Center we have some helpful hints on shippingbut we normally advise against adoptees being shipped where possible. A face to face hand over is what we are really working towards, which is one of the reasons why we need as many approved adopters as we can so that there is a match between adoptee and adopter with minimum stress involved.
For what it is worth, I would never ship a crab when the temperature is below 70oF without a heat pad and insulation, especially in really cold areas where it can get below 40oF. You can purchase heat pads at reptile stores, or from the Hermie Hut
