Pumpkins?

Post by erikleeson »

I'm carving a pumpkin this week and I was wondering if I can keep the seeds and the goo inside and scrape off some of the pumpkin's walls and feed it to the crabs? I know they can eat pumpkin seeds, but the goo inside...is it safe?

Its pure orange usually so maybe its high in carotene. Perhaps pumpkin can be a little Halloween treat?
When Christmas comes I'm going to give the hermies some cranberry sauce too!

I'm not a pumpkin with hermies expert, but I think that would be okay, I'm giving my crab that when I carve mine.

Yup you can. Can give it to them raw or bake it for a bit. I like to keep the pieces the kids cut out when they carve their pumpkins and freeze them for later use.

When I carved mine I toasted the seeds and got rid of the goo. I should have given them some.

I am going to go get some of those small pumpkins and use those, I was going to cut them up small and use the vac seal bags and freeze them so I have them through out the year. I just got the vac seal bag so I am ready to start freezing stuff in my big freezer in the basement. Now to get some money to buy these pumpkins and other stuff to freeze for them.

Due to family issues my crabs have been adopted out to wizkidsmom (Cheryl), I know she will care for them like I did. Thanks Cheryl

Great. I think the goo will be a little gross in the dish, but the crabs DO eat everything!

Did you know 97.8 % of the world uses pumpkins only as decorations?
I doubt this is true because what about all the pumpkin pie?

It's my second fave, after buttermilk pie.

Does this mean that crabs could have butternut squash guts too? They're very similar to pumpkins. If so, should I toast the seeds or give them to them raw?

I carved a face and let them go nuts. I have a ton of seeds left from it. I know it's not a great picture but I'm working on fixing the quality of my pictures. I hope you can see his smiley face and one tooth :)
