Friend is cruel to hermit crabs-WHAT TO DO?!?!?!?!

This is a bit too much to believe. If a hermie is stressed that much it is known they either begin to drop limbs, or just slowly die...

Ugh this has started to sway from the general point. Besides you have never seen it so just because you don't believe it doesn't mean it's not true.but that us beside the point. What can I do about my friend. Orrery soon that crab is gonna have a bad day and get killed. So how can I raise 300 dollars for a good crabitat to put him in?

Why $300? Where I live, you could get a 10 gallon tank at Walmart with the fish light hood and all for $40. Then a brick of cocofiber is only about $5. Petsmart has a kit for a tree frog that has a 7 or 8 watt under the tank heater, mister bottle, thermometer and hygrometer for $17. If the crab is in that bad of a situation, any new tank would be better. It doesn't need to be extravigant and you can always upgrade later on.

If your friend's hermit crab is in trouble, shouldn't you be more worried about putting together a simple crabitat to get him out of there before worrying about making it pretty?

point. I guess I'll tell his parents no matter what. I'll ask to keep him and but him into my best friends crabitat for a while. I dunno what I'd do if they wouldn't let me have him.

How you had the self control not to flatten this "person" is beyond me!! I can put up with a lot of crap but animal cruelty just gets my back up!! The sad part about this is that as soon as you grab the poor little guy, he will probably just go buy another one... I am not sure wherre you are from, but there are animal welfare groups everywhere that would more than likely help you out when it comes to setting up a new home because you are rescuing an ill-treated animal...

Meh, they won't care about hermit crabs. They only care for cats and dogs and garm animals or something . They think of them as "disposables"

I think you will find that they are legally obliged to follow up on ANY report... No matter what the animal..
Dont just throw it in the too hard basket... Your friend could do this to any animal!!!

I seriously woulda socked him in the nose without hesitation. what I think is smart is to get the crab out of there and tell his parents PRONTO. ask them to not let him get anymore pets! and if he beats you up tell someone, It will not hurt to tell someone what happened. as for the cost I would get a ten G for until the rest of the needed amount for a good habitat is available (the rest of the supplies is cheap for a temporary habitat.) I cannot imagine such cruelty to crabs... (shudder) >[
