Substrate (Fine sand or coarse sand)

Post by pudgyp »

Hi I recently bought play sand but there was a strange chemical smell so I bought silicon aquarium sand instead but realized it was coarse sand and not fine sand (probably around 1mm or less). When moist, the sand retains shape. Also, I plan to mix in 5:1 eco-earth/ cocopeat in it as suggested. Is this sand too coarse or will it be ok to use for my hermit crabs?

Thank you!

The sand should be okay to use.

Thank you very much! I mixed in some cocopeat/ ecoearth since people often suggest 5:1 ratio
