Spraying your hermies??? Good or Bad??

Post by z06vette387 »

Hi,

I have read that spritzing your hermies is good and then it is bad. Which one is it, good or bad? I mean they get rained on in the wild...right. If it's something you do, how do you do it? Do you spray them on the shell, in the shell, when they are walking around?

Thanks, Matt

OK, well, you can spray the TANK to bring up humidity. you also need to spray their gill area when taking them out of the tank, so they dont dry out :)

Ohhh...ok.

That makes sense. Do you use fresh or salt water?

Yes, it's good. BUT it can also stress them out, if you do it to much. So just in moderation. :)

It depends where you live. In Australia, it is horribly dry, so I spray my crabitat a few times a day if the humidity isn't keeping up. I don't encourage spraying the hermit crabs directly, but spray the air in the crabitat is fine.

I live in upstate New York right now. I go to Utica College in Utica, NY. It's winter and the heat is on in my dorm room, but it's a dry heat. I have been keeping the humidity levels up in the crabitat. Now leading into another question( sorry, I have sooo many questions), My room temp. has been anywhere from 70-75, but again, it's dry in my room. Can I still take them out and handle them adn let them climb on the branches I have for them outside the cage?

Ok, I was just wondering, I haven't had them out all that much since I just brought them home Tuesday evening. But you are right, the black tips do hurt, Julius got me in the cuticle of my finger...OUCH!!! That hurt...lol
