I have bought a coconut from the store and I used a saw to cut it in half then I scrapped it clean, Washed it out, then set it in the sun for a day and then hubby took a hammer and hit it to knock out the holes. It worked really good.

Yes it was much cheaper. I think I paid 2 or 3 dollars for the coconut and got 2 huts. The ones you buy from the pet store are like 4 or 5 dollars each.

yeah they are pretty expensive. i got my 2 jumbo huts from seashellcity.com and they were a little cheaper. they had cute names (knock first, chill pad) in paint above the door, but i took the paint off. precautions

For your covering...I don't know if plastic wrap would be a top choice to use to cover your tank top. I've used just a regular tough (bounty) paper towel for the covering before. They are great to provide extra humidity when needed, all you need to do is spray it with decholorinized water.

I use the "Glad Press-n-Seal" and I think it works great. It does not melt under the heat of my 15 and 40 watt night glo heat lamps either (tested that first). I have also used glass, which I DO NOT like, I just went back to wire top and plastic wrap. I will have to try that wet paper towel thing though.
