I cannot find any shells in my area. :( The ones in the tank are the only ones I found. However, I measured my crabbies and ordered some shells online, so hopefully they'll be here soon!

So far I've given them a fruit/veggie mash, some raw turkey, roast beef, carrot slices, and orange-flavored cuttlebone. They haven't really eaten yet though. :(

sounds like you're on the right track on the food list. mine won't eat any type of meat. i've tried chicken, shrimp, turkey. they won't touch any of it. they love bananas, grapes, raisins....mostly fruit come to think of it. but whatever, i guess they're picky lol

Okay update on the crabbies!

Everyone is doing great. They are finally eating well, and they seem to be loving their new home. I built them a moss pit with a corner shower caddy, and I FINALLY got some shells that I ordered (60+). Sandy still has not changed, but little Farli did- into a shell that's waaaaay too big for her, but at least she's happy, lol.

My three will also meet some new buddies soon! I picked up 2 more crabbies from Petco on Sunday... one has a horrible jagged shell, the other a painted one with huge flakes coming off. They're in ISO right now, and again have not yet changed shells. :( Philipe (jagged shell) I think I'll be moving to the main tank in a couple days, as he's active, scarfs his food, and is generally acting like a healthy crab. Flaky I'm not sure about... he eats well when I put him near the dish, but otherwise just sits around. I worry that the paint flakes are making him sick. They have SO MANY shells in their ISO tank... any other tips to get them to change??

No some are just stubborn. I have one named Sandy who came in a red shell that has and still chips off paint and she has yet to change into a new shell and she has lots of all types available to her. I have had her since May of 2006.

yeah, that's something that you have to let them decide. it's kind of frustrating lol but they know what they're doing and why more than we do. *shrugs* she'll change when she's ready, she may want to molt a couple times first. btw, how did you come across her on craig's list? were you looking for hermies or you just came across it on accident?

I just came across Sandy by accident while browsing Craigslist. Crabbies were something I had thought about getting for a long time, and when I saw Sandy in her tiny dirty little cage, I decided that was the final kick in the butt I needed to forge on into crab ownership.

And I love it!

They are addicting little buggers aren't they. My step son the other day goes why do you like them they are ugly. Of course I said no they aren't they are cute. He says well the little ones are but the big ones are scary looking. XD

I always describe hermit crabs as being "cute and cuddly" (I got the phrase from the Happy Tree Friends). I find them all cute, regardless of their size. The big ones look more "cuddlier" though, with their small eyes relative to their big body.
