Re: New Tank/New Setup
Also, how deep is your sub? It look really low on the right hand side, not sure about the left???
Do you have a lid for that tank to trap in the humidity?
It a very nice tank, though!!!

I've never had any problems with 'Impulse Buying'. They're just animals that I forgot I had planned to get.

Re: New Tank/New Setup
On the left side it is about 6 inches, then as you move towards the right it is about 4 inches, then about 1 inch all the way to the right. There is about 144 cubic inches of 6 inch substrate though.
I have a sliding screen cage, and I put towels on it to trap more humidity.
I am considering adopting 2 more mediums sized crabs from craigslist that are currently trapped in painted shells(I currently have 3). The tank is 36" x 18" x 16", do you think that's enough space for 5 crabs?

Re: New Tank/New Setup
When using a calculator for measuring the tank I got 44.9G so basically 45G....
I suggest if you want more crabs, i suggest on making the tank 6 inches throughout, as mediums make really big moulting caves plus they bigger too! Also, you stated that you will be getting 2 more medium sized crabs, so all the digging space helps! Also, try to get different sized crabs, as most shell fights occur when all the crab sizes are the same - thus competing for shells compared to a small to a large! Even if it is 6 - 8 inches on the left and then slopes down to 4 - 6 inches on the right, it will do the trick!
But yes, it tank can house 5 crabs in there, a rule I use is roughly 5 - 10G (I prefer to use 7G each) per crab, however, this changed in every tank! For example, so people will say they can have 6 crabs in a 20G and then there is other who have just 3! Most of the time it not the size - however this does come in factor - but is a personality!! So just add 1 - 2 crabs until you feel like it at it peak or under it - you know when to stop! Long story short, probably 3 - 6...
