You know I see such good reviews on that T-Rex Jungle substate even for the hermit crabs. I guess you know best being experts and trial and error. But It says that it has the calci sand and coco but does not say bark or anything. I wonder if the stores are placeing their own remarks on it being so grand.

So far, looking good

Ok, today I will pick up the pure coco bedding at the store. Make a smooth transition while cleaning the old tank.
1- Spiderman did not mind being moved up to the coconut husk I have in this tank last night. As a matter of fact, he sneaked into another shell. The shell he moved into was the cleaned one (boiled) that Old Crusty use to wear. I guess it just seemed to fit him better because he went to his distilled water dish and dipped his claw in (so cute) checked it and climbed in and then soon got out.

2-Then he went over to the salt water dish I made from the Instand Ocean Marine Sea Salt and he spent alot of time drinking it. Seems like a perfect opportunity to dump the sponge too since he drinks from the water dish. Lots of chirping and antenae activity. He looks really strong too and pretty healthy. (i think) fast,

3- Then I think he played. He tried to squeeze in and out behind the plastic basket I put in there and seemed to enjoy the routine. So even though he messed up his tank with play, I was thrilled to see him busy. he is really strong, pushing that thing over

4-He must have buried himself in the Forest blend I did not have a night light on for him. Wonder if it would have made that more fun.

5- My husband wants to buy me a replacement crab since Old Crusty died but I am not sure since the only place that sells them is Petsmart. And the only crab I noticed over there when there last time, was one that was twice the size of Spiderman. He looked pretty big. Would it matter? Should I chance it? Spiderman seemed ok all by himself so far(?)

I have a large with a small and they get along fine! But I would wait until you feel confidant in the choice you make! Get one you will be happy with! Goodluck and can't wait to find out what happens with a new friend!

Thanks Rip...although I just came back after carefully choosing another little crab. Gee their shells are almost identical. I DID go to PetSmart because they are the only pet store that has crabs. There were some under logs. I had a different person help me and I inspected the crab and it was active. I showed up at the store with my own cage w/ sponge soaked with Marine Sea Salt.
He was pretty happy even in the limited space and with the pure Eco EArth Compressed Coconut all nice and expanded, seemed extremely happy!
I DID make a change in the substrate for spiderman Ted and even got him a nice climbing stick that I read on this forum they like. HE sure did like it and was checking out all the dishes and climbed up and was at the top of the basket. Humidity at 70% inside and distilled water one dish with Marine Sea salt the other. Boy did he ever start sucking up that sea salt water. Resting now. Not sure if he knows he has a friend yet but the new guy I think he will be called "hercules" because he lifted up the coconut husk I had in there while burrowing. BTW...this time PetSmart had me sign a paper for adoption. I asked why I did not have that last time. They said, they were OUT OF THEM THEN. I could have brought my dead hermie back and got a free one because they have a 14 day return policy. Thanks EVERYONE for helping me set up. Was expensive to start with the mistakes and will probably still make some. But will leave them alone to enjoy the nice Coconut substrate. PURE!! Gee, I am just like a kid at 60. XD

Considered the large crab but was concerned about stress for Spiderman with so many changes this week. Now he has the same size. But as I grow...bigger will be fun! I love the pictures you all have of your habitats. They are awesome and creative!

Just don't buy it. Not suitable for hermies. Even dangerous. As above post, if you read page one of my tread here, you will find I had the same question. Better to get the Coconut substate if you are not using sand. They seem to get moisture from it and my hermies love it.
