Help IDing a hermie....

Post by BabyDabbleMLP »

ok, I have 3 PPs and one that I can't ID! It's kind of apeachy orange with littlewhite "hairs" all over him. He's the same color all over his body, even his pincher. I can get pics of him if it'll help... but it's driving me nuts! He's so cute and SUPER friendly! I've never even really seen him in his shell, every time I pick him up he's automatically out and saying hi to me! ^_^ Thanks in advance.

Yes, a photo would really help. He sounds like a strawberry to me... but I'm not too sure.

A strawberry would have spots on it different than the color of the rest of the exo.

Please keep in mind that color is only a vague guideline that crabs can and will pass anytime their body chemistry and/or DNA feels like it. I would suggest for now that you ignore the color and attempt identification based on eye shape, claw configuration and color, as well as how many legs are ontop of it's claw when it hides.

A PP is a c. clypeatus. They're from the Caribbean.

A c. cavipes is a crab from the Indian ocean. Different critters completely.

I finished the species page http://www.hermitcrabparadise.com/crabcare/species/. I'm still planning to add more content.

I don't think cavs are very common in pet shops. PPs are very common though. I'll move this topic to the Species Identification forum.
