My crabs!

Post by autumnfalls »

I finally got pictures of my crabs so I thought you guys would want to meet them.

This is Pumpkin. I have had him for five months now. He is the most friendly of my crabs and will come out of his shell as soon as you pick him up. He was originally in a painted pumpkin shell - hence the name.

Image This is my newest crabbie Turtle. After I put him in the main tank he kept on falling onto his backside ("turtling") whenever he went into the water dish. Mind you he is bigger than Pumpkin so he should be able to navigate the dish, but he just falls over.

This is Splotch. I have yet to be able to get him to change shells. He loves his painted one -.- He is shy, but once he warms up to someone he goes a bit nuts. He crawled all over my roommate and made his way up to my roommate's head (2nd picture). He's also my smallest crab.

I'm not sure if I have a favourite or not. Pumpkin is the oldest/most active, but splotch will crawl all over you and Turtle is just a goof.

Oh how very cute! The painted shell will soon be cast off once you give them new shells. It is so fun to watch them change shells. My Spiderman likes to try them on like new shoes. The painted ones usually do not have any nutritional value to them anyway and they look like they will have fun at your house.
I just put new substate in my tank yesterday and was sorry I did because it kind of made them cold. I forgot that winter was not the best time to be changing coconut substate. Having a bit of a issue getting it warmed up but they sure are EATING!
Anyway your babies look real cute! Aren't they great? XD

They sure are great. Pumpkin changed shells long enough for me to remove/boil all the paint off of his shell, and then he went back to it after a week or two. Obviously the shells I have for Splotch aren't what he'd like XD. I just got a few more so hopefully one will be to his liking.

A couple people here including me lucked out when we went to Walmart in the crafts department. Ten dollars was a huge see through bag with so many differnent shells in them and even some flat ones good for food dishes. Multi-use and much better than the price the shells cost in the petstore. I just rinse them real good in Marine Sea Salt Ocean Water or just distilled. They had so many nice shells in them and plenty for the hermies to pick and choose from. I just love watching them check out new shells. Sometimes I even get mixed up who is wearing what today. Glad you are enjoying yours. Hey, did you ever try unsalted popcorn? They LOVE IT. lols
