low price water dish

Post by ILuvMyCrabbie »

If you can't afford going to a high priced pet store to get a dish specially made for a hermie,
Try grabbing a plastic cup (preferably thin layered) and cutting off the bottom, make sure your crab can still getting but not drown.

Dishes aren't too expensive. I prefer the rockpool ones made for lizards. Plastic cups are very light, so hermit crabs tend to knock them over or push sand into them easily.

Shells are good for food dishes.

I use plastic lids from my husbands zip ties and electrical caps for the water and salt water. I think they are great, not too deep but not so shallow. I think they are big enough and my smallest one won't get stuck in it, I have a few shells in the bottom to help them climb out if they want but they don't use them. I also have shells that my daughter collected on the beach years ago as food dishes. They work great and are small enough to use many for different kinds of foods. I have one for fruits, meats and dried hermit crab food from the store.
Proud mommy of 2 beautiful daughters Kytana and Danica, 1 cat Princess and 1 dog Liebschen

Due to family issues my crabs have been adopted out to wizkidsmom (Cheryl), I know she will care for them like I did. Thanks Cheryl

I have a fairly large reptile dish for their food. I have 2 bowls I bought from Wal-Mart for like less than a dollar apiece that I use for my water dishes. I have pebbles in the bottom and a sponge in each so the small ones can sit on the sponges or they can climb out if they fall in.

I love reptile feeders the ones that refill the cup when the water is low exelent for 10 gallon aquariums with 5 hermit crabs. Worked wonders for me.
