I saw those metal things on crabbage patch and I didn't want to buy it, but I was just wondoring, Can I use like the end of the fork? dip it in honey or peanut butter and then sprinkle cuttlebone for calcium, or are they too sensitive to metal? help? Would a plastic spoon or fork work also?

You can use a small plastic spoon or a bamboo chopstick.

Wooden chopstick work great. Can also sort of rearrange tank plants, shells, etc., without bothering the hermies.Mr.Crab wrote:I saw those metal things on crabbage patch and I didn't want to buy it, but I was just wondoring, Can I use like the end of the fork? dip it in honey or peanut butter and then sprinkle cuttlebone for calcium, or are they too sensitive to metal? help? I'll try, but nothing will attach to that it will all gloop off.
Where should I hold the toothpic? Next to its mouthparts? or its claws?/legs?

Re: How can I feed my hermies with something long?(hand feeding)
I'd let them get their feelers and antennae close to it so they can investigate it, then maybe move it closer to their mouth. I had a sick crab once that I could pick up his shell with one hand tilting him back a bit. Then I'd put the toothpick w/ pure maple syrup against a mouth part and he's scoop it up, taste it, and then keep grabbing at it with that little finger scoop (sorry, I haven't really spent much time learning the proper anatomical names of all their parts and appendages).
I don't think that there would be much problem with serving it on the end of a fork. It won't be in contact with the metal for long. I really like the bamboo idea though since toothpicks are generally made of pine which is an unsafe wood. Same principle there, food isn't in contact with the toothpick long enough to transfer the unsafe sap.
