Re: Aussie Crabs?
I think I heard Wai say that the only hermies you can get in Australia are Aussies. If you're lucky, you can find a strawberry.

Re: Aussie Crabs?
I have been examining the hermit crab tanks from pet stores since 2004 and I have never seen any strawberry hermit crabs, only the Australian hermit crabs. If their diet is nutritious enough, they should be a dark brown colour, not the washed out grey colour.
Regardless of the hermit crab species, I think you should stick with 70 - 80% humidity. They are likely to breathe just like the other species of land hermit crabs, so I wouldn't take the risk.

Interesting. If you want to, adopt it and post us some photos of it. I really want to see.

Re: Aussie Crabs?
I don't think that would be possible. Australia's quarantine system is amongst the strictest in the world; no food, no plants, no animals, no dirt etc. My mum had her whelks confiscated; she didn't know that it had recently been added to the blacklist.
I will keep an eye out for strawberries. If I do encounter one, I'll adopt it if possible.

Re: Aussie Crabs?
That would be tough. I've never really worried about that though, because I'm not expecting to encounter any strawberries for now.
