I remember reading from the Epicurean Hermit that yes, it is toxic. CuSO4 is dangerous to handle without gloves.

To be classified as a "different species", the two individuals must not be able to breed to produce viable offspring. However, this does not mean that they aren't closely genetically related, so I'm guessing that CuSO4 will be toxic to all land hermit crab species. I'm not sure about the marine ones though.
