CRABITAT KNOCKED OVER - HELP.. surface molter buried...
About 3 -4 weeks ago (I'll have to check my calendar) my daughter knocked over her nightstand which holds our crabitat (glass aquarium w/ lid). We had a surface molter and when the nightstand tipped over the house slip off and landed on its side. After sitting it back up right - i found the top of the molters shell he is sitting upright and I left him as is and removed the other hermies to a smaller house for now. He is still in the exact same position and has not moved. I've covered the tank and made it dark and quiet. It does not smell fishy - no smell at all. What should we do?? We've been worried about him for weeks and we need to get the other 2 back in the larger aquarium. I wouldn't even know how to "dig" him up. We always leave our molters alone. Oh and he molted about 2 weeks earlier (for about 3-4 weeks)....I was surprised to see him molting again -he is not big he's is rather small. I would greatly appreciate ANY suggestions!

Just let him be until he comes up, keep your nose open for fishy smells. If you smell anything, chances his might be gone(but he will be in a better place)

No problem, Usually a crab in stress does NOT want to be touched or picked up.Samuel wrote:Thank you!

I agree. When I was checking whether Solar was pre-moult or not (he was indeed), he kept trying to pinch the palm of my hand until I returned him to the tank. I was rather shocked, because he was usually a gentle, shy guy.

Silverfish --- anyone hear of problems with them??????????
ok, here's what I discovered:( I saw a silverfish, an ugly little bug) crawling around we seem to have an abundance of them in this area of Georgia. After researching online, I discovered they like humid places and will feed on dead "insects" I am just sick because I dug through the entire aquarium with a small plastic spoon carefully then slowly dug up around Samuel's shell and there I found a few "shell" pieces, like an exoskelton...no Samuel, nowhere not in the shell (POSITIVE) and not anywhere outside of his shell. My fear is I never smelled anything because this stupid bug ate him. I have a glass lid on the crabitat but of course there are cracks...one could easily crawl through - any suggestions on keeping these out? I will have my husband spray the perimeter of our house again but we also seem to find them we don't have any other humid places in the house - but we are in Georgia and it's typically humid everywhere. I really don't want this to happen to another one of our crabs. I am just not sure how to remedy. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Maybe put a layer of scree over the glass lid. Staple it to a wood frame, and set it over that. That would probably work.
