is my hermit crab dead or just molting?
I am not sure if my hermit crab is dead or just molting. About a week ago i picked him up and he fell out of his shell. He hasn't changed color and he doesn't smell, but he hasn't budged so I took my other crab out of the cage and put him in another cage. can u please help me?

he hasn't moved but , his name is beans and he has a play mate named hermon. I have had hermon for about a year and 6 months and beans for about just a little over a month, but beans is smaller and they both get along. do you think that beans is probally motling since he is smaller? and I read that the smaller ones molt about every month or so, is this true? but i don't think beans is dead b/c he has been like this for about a week but he doesn't smell at all. and before i picked him up last tuesday, he was perfectly fine and now all of sudden he is like this. I have no clue whats going on with him

When the crab falls out of his shell, does he have an abdomen attached? Or is the body hollow (i.e. just the skin). If it does have an abdomen attached, he may be dead

Hi ive had hermiesfor a long time now and i know that hermies bury themselves when they molt. If he is buried then leave him. It can take from a week to a month for crabs to molt. Smaller ones take less time. If he isnt buried and not moving pick him up if he doesn't move look into his shell, if you poke his large claw (gently) he will move slightly or close his claw. if there is no responce then im realy not sure if hes ok. Sorry you have to go through with a sick hermie but good luck with him i hope he ids ok!!!
