Ernie... What is he?????

Post by ErnietheHermie »

I just bought my crab a week ago... and I am trying to figure out what species he is so I can provide the best of care for him! He doesn't have a purple pincher, but his legs are kinda pale purple with reddish tips... the rest of his body is a pale grayish color! I am so confused, I think he is a Carribean Crab, but his big pincher isn't purple! I need some expert opinions!!!!!!!!! Here is a couple pics of my new friend:

From the photos available, I think it's an E.

I agree with lolagranola. A picture of the big pincher would help, and if possible a picture of his rear left walking leg too.
Also, in your information it does not say which country you're from. This too can help determine which species he maybe.

Here is a pic of his big pincher! Sorry, my camera is not the greatest... it's the clearest pic I could get... I also have a feeling he might be getting ready to moult. He has dug a tremendous hole underneath his water dish, and he wasn't too happy when I picked him up to take another pic of him! Hope I didn't interupt him! Maybe moulting would have something to do with why it's so hard to distinguish what species he is? Hmmm, I am clueless.

I am from United States. :)

I'm sorry, didn't mean to have you dig the hermie up for another picture. (hermies should not be dug up unless an extreme emergency)
But from his candy corn shaped eye stalks, the oval ()_() shape of his eyes, and counting at least 4 stitch marks /// on the large pincher, and now the coloring of it I would say an E hermie. Rugs normally have a 'marking' towards the middle of their large pincher, as well as the last joint of the rear walking leg being shaped differently, and more stitch ///marks.

Definitely an E. Enjoy him and be sure to be offering saltwater for him.
