Take it from my personal experience!
NEVER buy from the shops on the beach!!! ;.;
I bought two from my mother from a shop on the beach - the conditions were no worse than the other shops along the beach. Both died from being kept in poor conditions too long and one of my origianl 5 crabs died from whatever they brought with them. I had to sterilize the tank and was really worried when two of my other crabs started displaying problems.
If you find:
A) dead crabs in the tank
B) a large number of pieces of crabs in the tank
C) a crab currently losing legs!!!!
D) No food
E) not enough room for crabs to move without walking on other crabs
F) no water of any kind
DO NOT PURCHASE crabs from that shop. Their health is highly unstable and even the most experienced of crabbers may not be capable of saving them. It is often too late for crabs such as these.

Well
If you want them to live longer, pet stores. I had one from a beach store for a month until it suddenly died. The 4 I currently have I got from a pet store. I have had 2 of the 4(from a pet store) for over a year.

Re: Well
Beach stores are the worst place to buy animals. THey have absolute no idea how to take care of crabs. none.
that's myu opion, but really it does depend on which stores.
