They just keep dying!

Post by aldfy6 »

What is going on with the crabs? My grandma had three crabs, all within the last two months die on her because they left their shells. I had never heard of the water and cup trick, so I couldn't have suggested it to her, but she said it was overnight. In the morning, she would wake up and they were dead out of the shell. She keeps real good care of them and has shells and everything. What is the problem? Nothing is physically wrong with them when they die, so what is it? Could it be something contagious?

What is your temperature and humidity? They may have froze to death, and btw, what did your Grandma keep the hermit crabs in?

Warm and humid. She misted the tank everyday. She kept them in a plastic tank with a vented lid; just like the ones people put small lizards in.

Warm and humid isn't specific enough. Does your grandmother have gauges in her tank? The temp should be 74 to 80 F and the humidity should be 70 to 80% relative.
