Food Brands
I was wondering if anyone could tell me what brand of food they feed their hermies. The food I currently use ( FMR) will no longer be sold at the pet stores in my area.

Re: Food Brands
I use stuff from the addiction store hereand stuff I have on hand myself (fruits, veggies, meats). Crabs cannot get a complete diet from any commercial food, and the chemical preservatives in most will kill them given enough exposure.

Re: Food Brands
I also buy mixes online from websites that have all organic, with mixes that contain copepods and seaweeds, as I'm not crazy about making up my own mixes and the initial expense would be a lot.
I use food lists/websites like these to make sure I'm covering the important groups:

I'm very proud to say I don't depend on any commercial foods, and my crabs seem to be doing quite well. I just had one come up 7 weeks ago from a bad molt with no pincers and with only three legs, and three weeks later he went down for a molt again, coming up 4 weeks later completely whole. It makes me feel confident I've been giving them good nutrients, as that has to be very hard on a hermie to do back to back molts like that, on top of regenerating three new limbs in the process.

Re: Food Brands
Definately get rid of the FMR. You can find a lot of things at your local grocery store to feed them safely. Bring the safe food list with you and remember you can cut up items and freeze or dehydrate them to make them last longer.

Re: Food Brands
Given your age chances are you will not be able to order online, but to feed your hermies properly chances are high you already have at home things you can feed them without any extra cost to you or a list you need to take to the store:

or some freeze dried or dehydrated foods that can be bought at pet stores or WalMart
