Sand Dollars

Post by bobo »

I am going to a Beach in a couple of days. I have been to this beach before and I know that there are sand dollars there, as well as ocean hermit crabs. I am just wondering if I could get some sand dollars there and crumple them up and sprinkle it on the food for some extra nutrients.

Some beaches you can't take items from as it's illegal. I'd make sure of that first. No need to get in trouble.

Yes, but be prepared for them to stink to high heaven too. But leave them soak in double strength ocean/sea water for 24 hours, let them dry, then offer them. You can offer them in broken pieces, but to sprinkle them on top of their food will only make it seem to them like it is the same food being offered. So I would offer the sand dollars separately.

Those are sand dollars, if you go to the beach and run your foot along the bottom sand(while in the water) If you feel something and pick it up, it will probably be a sand dollar.

That depends on which beach you're at - there are two beaches down by me that are within 100 miles of each other and one has shells and sand dollars (broken up) and one has no shells or sand dollars. Some beaches are sheltered from the shells coming in from the ocean by sand bars, currents, etc. Also, a lot of what you'll find under the sand may not be sand dollars either - I've found tons of almost complete 3-4" long conch shells in the beach that has shells. Just a thought!
