So, today I set a brown eggshell in my tank, for the crabs, and they are ALL over it! Definitely no such reaction when they get white eggs. With a white eggshell, they sort of look at it, and maybe consider picking at it. Brown one goes in, four crabs are over there!
If it makes any difference, all eggs given to them are free-range organic. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Re: White vs brown eggshells-
I have to say that the shells you are giving them are FAR superior nutritionwise, and though I've not tried to compare the two, I can say I'm not surprised.
Now I'm going to have to by free range eggs. I should be doing that anyway.
Having these little guys is making me more and more conscious of the garbage I put in my own body!
Definitely keep it up!

robin and other bird egg shells that you might stumble across in the wild are also "free-range" and the crabs will love them! Once mine got owl eggshells and once robin eggshells. Both went over well. Someday I want to get my hands on some alligator and turtle shells!

Re: White vs brown eggshells-
I've had brown eggshells in the tank for a while with no one showing any real taste for them until two nights ago. Spaz came up and has been demolishing those shells! He in his post-molt phase now (been up for a little over a week, I believe) and is going to town on them. They were in two pieces - one was the top of the shell, and the other was the bottom 3/4, and the bottom 3/4 is now like the bottom 1/4. He's eating them again right now - it's kind of funny to hear. Crunch crunch crunch as he breaks off pieces and eats them. His pinchers are really scary...he's my biggest crab by far. He looks...well, like a bodybuilder. You know how people who lift weights a lot are just kind of swollen looking? That's how he is, except as a crab.
