Here's the new hermies-rescues

Post by Gizaroo »

So I got both of these guys today...Just for kicks I asked the guy if he knew what type they were..he said one was a purple claw and one was a pineapple...wow.

So here's pics...They were alot bigger than I thought they were going to be! I bought a couple shells that were bigger than what they have...poor things. Need to get more though. Going to pick up a ten gallon tank tomorrow.

Here's Blu: (temporary name) http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae24 ... G_0005.jpg

Here's Banjo: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae24 ... G_0006.jpg

Wow! that is by far the most beautiful pineapple ive ever seen. and so rare of a find...I think maybe there are only a few of those left even in the wild...lol. Good Job saving them. Hope all goes well. keep us posted. I bet they cant wait to get out of those shells. (pineapples hate painted shells almost as much as Rhubarb crabs do)...haha...pineapple

Any idea what species these guys actually are? I'm assuming the purple one us a "blueberry" but not sure bout the other guy. Banjo has been sitting in the salt water since I put it in the critter carrier. Had to refill it once already!

Blu is a beautiful Purple pincher. But Banjo looks like an E hermie. Chances are he has been lacking ocean water way too long and is making up for lost time. (E's are one species that thrive with ocean water... like straws and rugs.)
They are adorable.

Thanks! I thought Banjo might have been an E...wasn't a hundred percent sure though. He's downed 3 bowls of water so far....and is working on the fourth. Poor guy. I love his eyes lol. So expressive! Both guys look like they're about to pop out of their shells. Really hope they change into some of these new shells soon. They need them. They can't even pull their bodies past their eyestalks in lol.

(these are the last one's I'll take until I get these guys in the new tank and they de-stress)

Blu: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae24 ... G_0001.jpg

My sister is buying me a ten gallon tomorrow...I put some sand, a piece of cork wood, a chunk of damp moss, some shells, and salt and fresh water in the critter carrier for tonight/tomorrow. It's better conditions than what they were in, and should hold them until tomorrow. Won't be such a drastic shock anyways. I covered most of the top with saran wrap to help with humidity/heat. I'll have to buy another tank heater and humidity/temp gauge for sure, and another food bowl. My spares are in the ISO tank with Blaze.

Can't wait to get them in the 10 gallon so they can run around! These two are very active!

Banjo is an adorable E! And I absolutely adore Blu's coloring! He has amazing coloring, especially when you consider the conditions he came from...

Thanks! Yea blu really has great coloring all thing considered. Banjo is currently just about hanging from the top of the critter carrier lol. Must be feeling pretty good from all that salt water haha. :) he seems happy go lucky. Blu is a little more reserved so far.

E's are a delicate species, but also known as little speed demons. #D

Haha the tank was demolished this morning and banjo was sitting on top of the cork wood that he knocked over onto the water dishes very proudly. He was so cute lol. Hope blu will change shells today. The "shark" shell he's in currently is horrible..and the paint is chipping:(

Wow those are some nice looking hermit crabs!
That Ecuadorian must have been away from the ocean for a long time with all of the salt water he/she is drinking :o
