Quick dinner for the crabs tip!

Post by blondy627 »

I notice lots of people write to ask what they can give to their hermits tonight for dinner and seem very concerned to give them a tasty variety while making sure to meet all the food group requirements. I'm just going to let you know what I do. It seems to work for me and my hermit family. Feel free to use my method so that you have time for things other than cooking for your crab friends!

I use a recipe I found on www.hermit-crabs.com that I use as my "staple" food that is always available. It has spirulina, rolled oats, rice, krill, sea salt, cuttle bone, carrot flakes, ect in it. Then I have pre-chopped up fruits and veggies that I freeze in snack size zip lock bags, along with things I always have on hand such as sea weed and freeze dried blood worms, baby shrimp, ect... I find it easier to do the fruits, veggies, and even meats that way because there are certain things that I only buy for one specific recipe (and put some aside for my crabby friends), or only buy specifically for my crabs. This way it lasts "forever!" Think about it, one apple cut up for your hermies is going to last a LONG time! And its very easy to grab a little of this and a little of that, then voila! Dinner is served. ;) They don't mind that it was frozen.
I am going to make an omlet for my crabs tonight and break that up and freeze that as well.
