Sleeping Alot

Post by Troides »

Ok im not sure but my hermit crab is sleeping alot but he was really active when i bought him is this because he is alone in his cage? Anyway i have a few more questions. I have had alot of hermit crabs in my life about 20 or 30 total this is the only time i have had one alone so im wondering should i go and get another hermit crab? Also hes in a cage with a mix of Play sand (sifted) and Calci sand (hope thats not bad) i have a big climbing rock in the middle and i have water dish, food dish and a few sponges i also have a glass top but not sure if i should use i just found a spray bottle to mist the cage and i was wondering if i could have a lamp instead of the matt or do i need to have both. im going to read care sheet buti thought id get advice from owners too. and i have shells for him to change to if needed i also give him baths once a week. Thanks for reading my post and please i will take all advice. Oh and Im a reptile guy.

calci sand and sand are an okay mix. :D

you need to mist the tankt o create humdity, so a heat lamp won't work for that matter. BUT a lamp ios good for keeping up the temp. The humdity should be 70-89 percent and the temp should be 72-80 degrees F

Getting another crab would be good, since hermies are highly social. they do become less active without friends, at least from what i have experienced.

All crabs do need some salt water, so its best to hgave some for them. You can buy salt mixes at pet stores and read the instructions. I use instant ocean, because i heard other use it too. ;)

all types of hermies need salt water. they use it before they go down for a molt. i noticed that lemi and ike were both sitting in their salt water pond and now they're buried. when my medium goes under, wendy, she'll drain the salt water out and i'll have to refill the pond about 2-3 times before she goes under lol.

I agree on the needing another one at least. Do not ever feel stupid asking any questions. You can never learn if you do not ask. What kinds of repitiles do you have?
