Hermie Bathroom

Post by HermieLove19 »

Where does a hermie go to the bathroom? I know they don't have a toilet in that shell of theirs. Where does it come out of? Does it stay in the shell sometimes? Is that why they get baths? I'm so curious now. I don't know how it gets there!

Most of it goes in their shell. When you give them a bath, some of it might come out. It's not all that disgusting anyway. Does darker poop suggest a sufficient diet?

Wow! I dont know where we get this information from but from my experience and research i found that hermit crabs do it in their shells but then use their shell holdings legs to roll it out. Well thats the information i got!

Well I dont know

Cheers

lol that's what i thought they did. They do have all those little legs in there. It is dark i don't know if thats good or bad. i don't give them any generic hermit crab food from a container at the store. i make sure they always have food but i usually make it for them. i heard they put alot of unnecessary ingridients in them. if one is better than another ill get it but i don't think fish meal is enough for them.

My crabs poop a lot actually. In corners most of the time. My hermies poop is usually on the surface.

Poop wasn't such a big issue for mine. I rarely found much poop, although some of the gunk came out of their shells when they had a bath.

That's how they do it cootiesami. :)
As for the coloring it normally is a dark coffee brown, almost a blackish in coloring. (usually a healthy coloring) There are some who have used colored sand who saw a tinge of that coloring in their hermies poop too when it was rolled out of their shells. If they happen to eat quite a bit of calcium as in oyster shells, cuttlebone, etc. it can be a much lighter brown and almost a beige in coloring.

Once I start hermit crabbing again, I'll be feeding my critters a much more varied diet with more meat. Hopefully I'll notice more poop then. :P
