Pharmaceuticals in tap water

Another argument cautioning us against giving our crabs tap water: residual amounts of drugs in water that's treated by sewage plants and re-circulated. As to the potential harm done to our "exotic pets:"

"While the comprehensive risks are still unclear, researchers are finding evidence that even extremely diluted concentrations of pharmaceutical residues harm fish, frogs and other aquatic species in the wild and impair the workings of human cells in the laboratory."

Major cities have been testing their water and as to the rest of us, I think we have to guess. Very few cities have non-tainted water. These are just trace amounts of pharmaceutals that've gone thru the human body into the sewers; sewage treatment plants aren't designed to remove them from water!

I give all my animals filtered water. Dogs and cats are also better off with spring water or filtered water. Some chemicals in tap water are so strong they can give white dogs those unattractive brown spots under their eyes! I prefer filtered water myself.

my crabs drink better than me most of the time.. i stick to soda while i give them nothing but fiji brand bottled water... comes straight from a volcanic aquifer in fiji and never touches anything nonsterile till you open the bottle and drink it so they claim. i drink it when i need water and its my fav bottled brand so i figure they might like it too... and do they ever drink it outta the fresh bowl. every day when i put fresh water in i pour it from the top of the tank so it splashes and they come running to it.

I like fiji too. my sister loves it. But for now the hermies and I drink Poland Spring.
