To put something over the top.....
Is it a bad idea to put a big sort of like water dish over where you know is a moulting crab, what if he tries to dig back up and he hits the bottom and gets stuck? Also this crab has been down for about 2 or 3 weeks and is the size of a quarter, when will he be up? Im really impatient and nervous, no fishy smell. it just smells like hermit crabs and wet sand.

No do not put anything heavy over where a crab could be. I would say to put it in a shallow part of hte sand. Crabs tunnel when they dig so chances are any crabs would go around the dish if they hit it.

When crabs dig under ground, they can tunnel underground, its not like they go down and up only. Many crabs dig under water dishes and branches anyway. Its not really necessary but if you see a crab digging nearby the molter, I'd place a rock or something over the spot, don't press it into the sand, just lay it on top.
