food keeps going mouldy

Post by crabcrazygal »

the last two times that i have put food in my tank, it has gone mouldy, like fluffy and white.
it only seems to happen when i put fruit in there, or like the last time, honey.
i have cleaned the tank, and havent put any more food in it yet(i figured it wouldnt hurt them, because in the wild they are scavengers, and dont usually get food all the time) and am waiting to see your opinions on what i should do.
oh and i usually leave fruit in there for two days a the most.

X( You need to feed them fruits and veggies and meats and don't leave fruits in the tat for two days. One day at most.

Yeah, fresh fruit should never be left in more than 24 hours...or most fresh foods, for that matter.

It happens faster in a tank that has a higher humidity level. One tank I have no mold in. But the next day the tank with the bigger hermies always has mold. You just need to stay on top of getting the food out the next day. If I do it when I wake up the next day I have little to no mold but if I can't do it until I get home theres usually some molding going on. It doesn't help that they hide food EVERYWHERE and I need to search for it.

Please read the reply I have done regarding not having a humidity gauge in your journal:

There needs to be more air circulation in your tank. Does the lid you're using have holes in it? Wet conditions(tank) with no air circulation will cause mold to grow really fast.

Make sure your humidity is set at the correct range and remove food after 24 hours if you're still having issues.
