Herring Steaks for Cats...

Post by Chermo »

I was at petsmart today and for .67cents I bought a bag of Herring Steaks in the cat treat section, not only does my cat love them but the crabs can have them too. They are 100% natural, this is what the package says....
Wholesome, made from dried pacific herring with no by products, fillers or rendered materials.
Natural, absolutely no additives, preservatives, colouring or artificial flavorings.
Nutritious, a natural source of Omega 3 fatty acids, protein, natural vitamins and minerals.
Safe, processed under strict quality control to meet the highest standards of nutrition.

Ingredients: 100% dried pacific herring
Crude Protein Minimum 65%
Crude Fat minimum 12%
Crude Fiber Maximum 1%
Moisture Maximum 10%
Omega 3 Fatty Acids minimum 1.6%

There is a website too snack21treats.com

I wonder if they have other kinds. I thought for .67 cents that was a great deal and they are in a bag not a can.

Due to family issues my crabs have been adopted out to wizkidsmom (Cheryl), I know she will care for them like I did. Thanks Cheryl

Yep I went and bought 2 more baggies cause they said it was priced to sell, which usually means they are not going to carry it anymore. I am going to try a different petsmart location so I can find different kinds. I went on the website and they have stuff for cats and dogs all natural so I am going to see what I can find at a different petsmart as I went back to the one I was at last night and didn't find anyother kinds even in the dog treat isle.

As for my find today....
I was in the treat section for hamsters and such and found...
Brown's Extreme Garden Goodness $2.79 per bag
Ingredients: Carrots, Zucchini, Green Peas, Green Beans, Green Bell Pepper and Sweet Potatoes
Sodium and Cholesterol free and no added sugar all natural

Crude Protein (min) 14%
Crude Fat (min) .75%
Crude Fiber (min) 4.5%
Crude Fiber (max) 6.5%
Moisture (max) 12%

Then....
Brown's Extreme Wild Berry $2.79 per bag
Ingredients: Strawberries, Cranberries, Blueberries, and Blackberries
Sodium and Cholesterol Free and no salt or sugar added all natural

Crude Protein (min) 4%
Crude Fat (min) 1.5%
Crude Fiber (min) 5.5%
Crude Fiber (max) 7.5%
Moisture (max) 12%

At this rate I will have foods for ever if I keep finding stuff like this. I did find some other all natural chicken and duck strips for dogs that also could be cut into pieces but the bags were $8 each and that was too expensive for me right now. They were also all natural in the dog treat section I didn't get those though. Just giving ideas on stuff we can use to feed our crab babies.

Kaytee Healthy toppings sells bagged dehydrated foods and such for birds, rabbits, hamsters, etc. that I have used for years and the hermies do love them too. No preservatives, but on the back of the bags they do have expiration dates, most times well into a year in advanced.

So far from what I have seen only the papaya and mango has artificial coloring in it, and I have never bought it for that reason.

I have used those too but never the papaya one since it had the artificial coloring, I figured it was bad. I believe I posted it on here somewhere that I found those once. Now that I found these types of stuff I am searching more and more now. I love using the pill despensers since now I will know that they are not eatting the same stuff each week and adding all these different new finds to them. I am slowly seeing how much they like them. I am giving 1 new thing each day I am still offering fresh foods but for the dried stuff the pill despenser works great so I know they are getting new kinds of food each day.

Yeah, I use one of those thread organizers (the kind with sections to put thread, not the kind with rods to hold the spools) to organize my dried food. I have each section filled with addiction store baggies of a similar 'food group' - one for calcium sources, one for protein with no chitin, one for chitin-providing calcium, fruits, veggies, flowers, etc. It works great because I just take the baggie in the front and use what's in it, then rotate it to the back of the section, so I know there are no repeats.

That's my method - maybe it'll help you too!
