The species is just Aussie, Alex.
Also, there's not an option for 'all' or 'I don't have a favorite' - perhaps you could add it?

Please don't refer to Coenobita variabilis as "Aussie Nudderbutter"... that store dreads me. No-one in Australia refers to them by that stupid name anyway.
You left out Coenobita cavipes (cav).

Would this be a store in Aus. or the online store? Seems blueberrys were omitted too. Please don't refer to Coenobita variabilis as "Aussie Nudderbutter"

Re: What Is Your Favorite Species Of Hermit Crab?
I've seen both "Aussie Nudderbudder" and "Aussie Silver Streak" on an online store - I think it was exotic hermit crabs or something. I hate how people try to make up their own species and make them seem different (like the Calico Es a while back) so they can make more money off of them.
It especially makes me laugh because of how much crab coloring will change with diet. I mean, my PPs are turning purple - what if I had bought them because I wanted them to stay pink or red? Or what if someone bought a "Silver Streak" crab only to have it eat a decent diet and turn the same color as the "Nudderbudder" variety of crab? I'd be asking for a refund if I didn't know better.

Not that I know of. C. variabilis are readily available in almost every pet store, so I don't see why people in Australia would buy them online if they could just drive to their local pet store to get some instantly.ladybug15057 wrote:Would this be a store in Aus. or the online store? Please don't refer to Coenobita variabilis as "Aussie Nudderbutter"

Re: What Is Your Favorite Species Of Hermit Crab?
Sorry I wasn't more clear. What I meant was the online store. This post/poll is only the second time I have heard of Aussie hermies referred to as "Aussie Nudderbutter" as well as what Emma posted "Aussie Silver Streak". I have always read about them being referred to as "C. variabilis" or "Aussie Hermies" and a few years ago as "Crazy Crabs" but the "Crazy Crabs" I haven't heard for a couple years now.

Re: What Is Your Favorite Species Of Hermit Crab?
When I first started crabbing in 2003, there was a business called "Crazy Crabs", but I haven't seen any of their products since. Pets Paradise calls them "Happy Hermits" (*throws up*), but otherwise, I can't think of any common names for them. We don't really have access to a second species in Australia, so C. variabilis haven't been given many common names, since there's no second species to distinguish them from (as opposed to the US where you've got PPs and Es to distinguish).
