Combining Micros w/jumbos?
I have a tank for my micros and I would like to put them in the big tank with the big guys. I have a problem keeping the water in the micro tank from evaporating (I fill water dishes morning and night). Do you think the big guys will be upset by this or vice versa? I am tired of filling water bowls at least twice a day in the micro tank.

What type of dish do you use for the micros? I've found water in shell dishes evaporate (or absorb, I'm not sure) much quicker than any other type of dish. Also, how big is your dish?
How big are your big guys in comparison with the micros? Could you give us a measurement? Is there a great difference between sizes?

I had one jumbo and three smaller ones in the same tank. I ended up putting a sponge in the water dish to make sure that the smaller ones couldn't drown. They all seemed to get along great! My smaller ones liked to spend time together under the coconut hut and the jumbo liked to hang out at the entrance of it and at the edge of a larger shell. The smaller ones would also dig more...but I never noticed any signs of fighting between the two sizes. I did have a smaller one...around the size of a nickel one time and my fifty cent sized ones were mean to it and ended up
killing it. But the jumbo could care less about the little ones.
My question is....is it better to have at least two jumbos? We've only had one and when we "rescued" him we bought two little ones to go with him. We also had another smaller one at home. My last surviving...a jumbo just died today and I plan to go to the beach (the only place to get big ones around here) and shop for a new one this week. I get my sand from the beach and usually "rescue" the crabs from their wire prisons at the beach shops. My jumbo lived for so long capared to the little ones. One of the smaller ones died of stress a week later. I also liked handling the bigger ones better.
Thanks!

You should not take wild hermit crabs from their natural habitat. There is a great chance that they will die from stress from a 'sudden' capture. Hermit crabs already in the pet shop are survivors of the pet shop owner's horrible treatment. So please don't take hermit crabs from the wild. It stresses them so much that it can kill them.rcmommy wrote:My last surviving...a jumbo just died today and I plan to go to the beach (the only place to get big ones around here) and shop for a new one this week.
