Crab that has shedded exo..Accidently got her wet!!!!

Post by YoursTruly »

Hi, I just joined this site specifically to find out if I've done something dramatically WRONG...

I've been studying hermit crabs for nearly a year, and I finally got two in Febuary...I only wanted one, but the keeper said two is a better number.

Just recently(I found out today) my smaller crab molted. I'm not sure how long she's been in the condition, but she's molting alright! I wasn't worried at first, just excited. But now I am worried I've done or am forgetting something!

Before I got Jewel and Archie, I wrote down all of the specifics I may have needed to know in the future. I wrote down, "DO NOT WET AFTER MOLTING." But, I did. By accident, actually. I felt so stupid and horrified afterward.

What have I DONE?! She's the sweetest crab, so tame and sweet. Very friendly, too. Will this effect her chances of surviving the Molting? Please help!

BTW, should I put salt-water bathing salt in her bowl, or just drinking salt water. As of now, I have a salt water drinking bowl, and just drinking water bowl. I also have a sponge in each bowl. I have her isolated from Archie, in a sand substrate. It's quite soft, but it's about an inch high. I also have a larger shell in the tank, but she just changed shells right before this happened...Like on tuesday. Last tuesday. Is there anything else I should have in the tank? And, also, she's sitting in the drinking water bowl. Should I carefully move her out?

She should be fine, but just don't wet her again. Next time put in more sand in the isolation tank, because 1 inch is barely enough. Try putting in at least three inches of substrate.

There should be both kinds of water (fresh and sea salt - not table salt!) for the crab. Leave the crab in there, and don't touch her until she has fully hardened.

Thanks! She seems better, even after you just giving me that bit of advice. Thank you so much!

Would it be possible if you could post us a photo of the crab? If you don't know how to, don't worry then :).
