Awesome store!
Romancing the Stone is only in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, I believe. I do not know if they are anywhere else. I have gotten all four of my hermit crabs from this store! They clean their cages before they open and after they close every day. They have a wide variety of crabs to chose from and you get a cage, sponge, shells, and food in the package when you get your first crab(s). They are knowledgeable about the crabs and their care, more than the employees at Petco in Cape Girardeau are. They're awesome! As is this website by the way! A+++

Ah, hmm. Well, kudos to them for the cleaning of cages, seemingly proper care, and variety in hermies.
Purchase packages often seem like a great deal. The real problem is that they aren't at all. Plastic is not an ideal container for hermit crabs, and the cages offered are never big enough. Crabs need at minimum a 10 gallon tank - preferably more if you can afford the price or size.
If you are capable of shopping online, I would suggest doing so for hermit crab food or check out your local Walmart. Sometimes their prices are decent. Otherwise, shopping online is the cheapest way to get your hermit crab supplies next to going to beachside souvenier shops. DO NOT buy crabs from them, but you can pick out reasonably priced shells, sponges, and other accessories at the beach.

Thanks! I'm in college and living alone in an apartment, so as you can imagine money is really tight. I have 4 small hermies in a 12 inch long, 6 inch wide, and 8 inch tall plastic tank, with calci sand and a coconut shell which they adore (I also have extra shells, a tree etc). May I ask why plastic is bad for hermies? Is glass better? Is there an overall food or brand that is best for hermit crabs? Is there an online store that is better than the rest in hermie supplies? I apologize for all the questions. I just have so many and want my pets to be as happy as they can be.
