Well im new here. Although this may be the same place I was at w/ a new name, because it is now not working properly???But annnyways. I was wondering if anyone had a good idea (and cheap) that I could do for a 2nd level on just a 10 gallon tank. I feel like my tank is BORING! And thought a second level would be fun! Also, any other fun (But very cheap) ideas for my hermies to have fun would be great!!
Send back!!

Well Happy Birthday!
I am going to buy a new hermit crab tomorrow at petsmart. Wally seems alone, so I convincedmy mom to drive me to petsmart = ) One of my 2 died last week. I had just gotten them too. = ( He seemed fine, and then boom, dead. SO sad. But I don't have anything else near me that I could get a hermit crab from, so I have to go to petsmart. Since I know its no the best place to get them, what should I look for in the hermit crab? And also, do you think I can get 2 little ones? I have a pretty little one already, and a 10 gallon tank. And do all sizes get along well together? because I was hoping to get some really small ones, so would my other one be ok with them?????

all sizes get along pretty well. Just be sure to introdce them out side the tank in case one decides to attack (this can happen anyways, even if they are the exact same size)

they probably won't attack, but you can bathe them in non-chlorine water together, and that seems to work for me.
you can get two if you want. I have two smalls together and they don't really hang out toether that much, not really. So i don't think it really matters.

thanks! it's not a big one, just 23rd. but i'm going home and it's the first time i've been home for my bday in 3 years. anyway, i have 6 (1 micro, 3 small, 2 medium) in one 10 gal and 2 (1 large, 1 jumbo) in my other 10 gal. i have another large, athena, but she's in ISO and I don't think I'm going to have her much longer unfortunately...
everyone seems to get along just fine. i moved aries (medium) into the other tank with wendy, my other medium and they're fine. i take everyone out every once in a while and they'll walk on top of each other but there's not fighting. they seem to get along. so they should be ok in the 20 gal i get for them. but hermies is right, introduce them outside the tank, and just watch them to see what happens.

I would get at least 2 crabs. I have 10 and they love to pile on top each other and all hide in the terra cotta pot hide I have for them. Also make sure you get EVERYTHING you need to start a tank at the same time so you dont waste time going back and forth to the petsotre getting things. Print a list of supplies and then go shopping. Be aware! Things cost money so dont be suprised if you spend about 50 bucks or more.
?Glass aquarium or terrarium. We recommend nothing smaller then a 10 gallon. Also known as a crabitat.
?A glass or plexi-glass lid for the aquarium. You may use a mesh lid and cover it with saran wrap. Please be advised this isn?t the best solution.
?A humidity gauge to assure the crabitat stays at the recommended relative humidity. 75%-84% humidity.
?A temperature gauge. The crabitat needs to be between 75-82 degrees.
?UTH(under tank heater) for your correct tank size. You may also use a combo light. You will need a day-glo and a night-glo incandescent bulb. The wattage will vary depending on your tank size.
?Substrate that is acceptable, such as play sand that is deemed safe for children, beach sand, compressed coconut fiber (Eco Earth and Forrest Bedding) or fine crushed coral.
?Extra shells are needed. Approximately 4 shells per crab in a varying range of sizes and types.
?Fresh foods are a MUST. Offer them daily fresh meat, eggs, fruit, veggies and nuts. We offer a safe food list on our site, please check it out.
?Dechlorinated water & bowl(not metal). Get a water conditioner at most pet stores in the aquarium supply area. Make sure it does NOT contain a slime coat. Tap water will harm your crabs.
?Saltwater and bowl(not metal). Also found in the aquarium section of a pet store. Do NOT use table salt as it is harmful to hermit crabs. You need the salt water bowl to be deep enough to FULLY cover your largest crab.
?Hiding coves and huts. You can make your own out of Tupperware or buy store bought items such as half logs, caves and coconut huts.
?Climbing accessories such as choya/cholla wood, cork bark, grapevine, driftwood and coral. You can use fake plastic plants and vines, hemp nets, turtle docks are also great.
