I have heard far too many stories about jumbos and micro or mini crabs being the best of friends to believe there is much threat involved having them together. I myself have a jumbo that's half the size of a fist with 9 other crabs from golfball size to a micro and have never had a case of my oldest (and thereby largest) crab bullying or hurting the others.
Shells absorb water and the sand around them will absorb the water from the shells.

You should be very careful at beach-side shops. They are notorious for having unhealthy crabs that die shortly after purchasing. If there are dead crabs in their store, walk out.
Combining Micros w/jumbos?

I fully understand about the pet stores at the beach. We went to a place...a common chain, not gonna point any fingers...but we turned around as soon as we got close to the crab cage. It STUNK! There were several (and I mean several dead crabs just lying in the cage) We went to the place that we bought my last crabs. They seemed to take good care of them. They had them in a part wire, part wood cage...know that's not the ideal place to keep them but these guys had moist towels clipped to three sides of the cage. They also had it very clean and well kept. No dead crabbies. My crabs that we have bought from the beach have lived either a week, a few months, to a year or more. We ended up buying one there and then went to a store that operated year round and had a good reputation for taking even better care of their crabs. We bought two there and one of them changed shells in our little plastic crabitat for travel in less than five minutes after purchase.
He has remained very active and friendly.
I also want to say that I have learned a lot from this site. We now have several inches of sand for them to dig and enjoy I made a cover/lid to help keep the humidity up. I also think the added sand/less room in the tank from the lid helped with the humidity issues I had in the past. We have not only declorinated water now, but water with aquarium salt as well. AND I have made the crab's home more homey for them with more to crawl on and hide under. I really hope to keep these crabs happy for a long time!!!
